HealthTech Award for Best Translational Research Project
Te Tītoki Mataora | MedTech Research Translator and the Consortium for Medical Device Technologies (CMDT) invite submissions for the 2025 HealthTech Award for the Best Translational Research Project.
This prestigious award recognizes exceptional research projects that address major healthcare challenges, demonstrate innovation, and show strong potential for real-world application or commercialisation. Eligible projects must align with the guidelines for a RAP stage II (Concept Seeding) or stage III project (Acceleration), which focus on advancing medical technologies towards clinical and commercial viability.
Three prize packages are available, with the winner receiving a RAP Stage III award valued at $100,000.
Research Exchange Pitch
Te Tītoki Mataora | MedTech Research Translator invites submissions for the 2025 Research Exchange Pitch.
This exciting pitching event is open to applications from research projects that meet the guidelines for a RAP stage II (Concept Seeding). The award recognises translational projects that apply research to address a clinical problem and improve health outcomes. To qualify, projects must demonstrate commercial potential, ensuring that the developed technology can reach health consumers, providers and end-users, and have a multi-disciplinary team.
Five finalists will be selected to pitch during the Research Exchange. Each finalist has the opportunity to be awarded up to $80,000.
CMDT Early-career Researcher Award
CMDT Early-Career Researcher Awards - Calling all postgraduate students and early-career researchers (ECRs), WE WANT YOU!
This is a call for abstracts to present your research at the Te Tītoki Mataora Forum at Healthtech Week, the annual celebration for research in the medtech and brain health research space. To encourage and support emerging researchers in the field, we are offering the CMDT Early-Career Researcher Awards to postgraduate students and ECRs (<10 years post-PhD excluding career breaks) who submit abstracts. This is an opportunity to win a cash prize, get exposure for your research, and boost career development! Please feel free to pass this call on to those who may be eligible!
Detail of the Award & How to apply
Submit 200-word abstracts to medtechresearchnetwork@auckland.ac.nz by 4pm Monday 19 May 2025. Please use the attached template. Only one abstract may be submitted per presenting author. Abstracts will be graded on:

Importance of the project to health technology research.

The project’s potential to be translated to a real-world application that could improve health outcomes.

The project is innovative, and the abstract is clearly written.
Abstracts will be assessed, and you will be invited to either present a 3-min elevated pitch or a research poster. The authors of the best abstracts will be invited to give a 3-minute elevator pitch of their research on Day 3 (Friday 4th July). If you are not selected for a 3-minute pitch, you will be asked to present research posters which will be on display throughout the week and presented for judging on Day 3 (Friday 4th July).
Whether you present a poster or elevator pitch, you can win cash prizes sponsored by CMDT!
Please note that if you are invited to present an elevator pitch or a poster you will need to register to attend at least Day 3 of the conference (Friday 4 July). Registration is open now https://healthtechweek.nz/
We do not cover conference registration fees however you can apply for travel funding here.
Selection process
1. A selection committee will review all submitted applications.
2. The committee will select the abstracts to be invited to give a poster or oral presentation at the Te Tītoki Mataora Forum Day 3, Friday 4 July.
3. All applicants will be notified of outcomes and next steps by Friday 30 May 2025.
